Box Score Denver, Colo.: Fort Lewis and Regis were tied at 31 at half but a second half surge spelled disaster for Regis in a 74-52 loss to 17th-ranked Fort Lewis.
Regis (4-9, 3-7 RMAC) played the bigger Skyhawks (12-1, 9-1 RMAC) well in the first half by hitting 4-of-6 from deep and going 5-for-5 from the line. The Rangers also held their own on the boards trailing just 16-15 at the break.
The second half was a different story with FLC hitting on 66.7 percent (16-for-24) from the field to just 29.6 percent (8-of-27) for the Rangers.
Junior Joseph Bodman hit a layup to tie the score at 40, five and a half minutes into the second half. Regis didn't score for nearly three minutes but fortunately, the Skyhawks only scored four. Freshman Kevin Marshall hit a layup to cut the lead in half with 11:32 remaining.
It was another three minute stretch where the Rangers didn't score that put the Rangers too far behind the eight ball. Prior to a free throw by senior Dionte Goodlett, Fort Lewis stretched their lead to 12, 54-42. Regis did not score a field goal for over seven minutes of game time from 11:32 to the 4:10 mark when sophomore Dylan King hit a three pointer. Fort Lewis stretched their lead again and won 74-52.
King had a productive night hitting for 14 points on just five shots (4-for-5) and was a perfect 3-for-3 from the three-point line and the free throw line. Marshall chipped in with 11 points, while Bodman knocked down 10. Bodman led the team with seven rebounds and three assists.
Regis will host 13th-ranked Adams State tomorrow afternoon at 5:00 p.m.
