Box Score Denver, Colo.: Junior Jarrett Green pumped in a game-high 25 points in the Rangers 63-62 win over Western New Mexico.
Regis (3-6, 2-4 RMAC) led 5-4 early on but over the next four and a half minutes outscored Western New Mexico (4-7, 3-4 RMAC) 12-2 to take a 17-6 lead. They built their lead to as many as 15 points at 27-12 with just over eight minutes left in the first half.
The Rangers then went cold for the next six minutes as they didn't score a point, but fortunately the Mustangs only closed the gap to eight points before junior Jon Conley hit a layup to stretch the lead back to double digits. WNMU closed the first half on a 11-2 run to cut the score to 29-23 at halftime.
Over the first six minutes of the second half, Western New Mexico began where they left off going on a 13-4 run to take a 36-33 lead with just over 14 minutes remaining. Green single-handedly kept Regis from falling further behind by scoring the Rangers next eight points to keep pace with the Mustangs.
WNMU led 45-43 with 8:23 remaining but Regis held the Mustang offense in check, partly due to the fact that pre-season All-RMAC selection Chad Carter was in foul trouble and eventually fouled out late in the game.
Andy Sohlich tied the game at 57 for Western New Mexico with 2:05 remaining, but Green got fouled on the ensuing possession and hit both and 8-for-8 in the game to give the Rangers the lead. Two missed three pointers, one by each team, gave the ball back to the Rangers and gain Green was sent to the line putting Regis ahead 61-57 with just 15 seconds remaining.
Seven seconds later, a coaches nightmare happened when senior Demitrius Owens was called for a foul on a three-point attempt by Sohlich. The leading free throw shooter in the RMAC made his first two but missed the third and the rebound was gathered in by Green who calmly hit two more free throws with six seconds left to give the Rangers a 63-59 lead.
Lucio Luttrell hit a bank three pointer at the buzzer to make the final score 63-62.
Green was 7-for-12 from the floor including 3-for-5 from deep. Senior Demitrius Owens had 14 points, on 6-of-7 shooting to go along with three assists, four rebounds and four steals. Sophomore Dylan King raked down a team-high six rebounds to tie for honors with junior Jon Conley. King chipped in with six points, including a crucial three pointer late in the game, while Conley had five points.
