#24 Regis Completes Sweep of New Mexico Highlands

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2

Las Vegas, N.M.: The 24th-ranked Regis University volleyball team forced New Mexico Highlands into 23 errors en route to their 10th win of the season.  Regis, now 6-1 in the RMAC, won by scores of 25-20, 25-19 and 28-26 to beat the Cowgirls for the 31st time in 32 total games against the two teams.

New Mexico Highlands (7-9, 1-6 RMAC) led the first set at 20-18 when Regis Head Coach Frank Lavrisha called a timeout.  The Rangers (10-6, 6-1 RMAC) responded by scoring seven straight points with a kill by Gina Morgan and a service ace by Sage Martinson.  The other five points came from service errors or attack errors by the Cowgirls.

Regis held a slim 18-17 lead but that is when Regis buckled down and scored seven of the next nine points to win set two 25-19.

The largest lead in set three by either team was when Regis led 18-15.  N.M. Highlands took a timeout and score the next three to tie the set at 18.  From there it went back and forth and eventually went to extra points.  A kill by Katie Klein put Regis up 25-24 but the Cowgirls got a kill from Jazmine Harge to tie the set at 25.

Alicia Moreno of NMHU put the home team up 26-25 but another attack error tied the set at 26.  Sophomore Caitie Breaux then took over by hitting home two of her 10 kills to give the Rangers the 28-26 win.

Klein led Regis with 13 kills in just 21 attempts with two errors for a .524 attack percentage, which also led the team.  After Breaux's 10 kills came Gima Morgan's eight kills and no errors.  Martinson provided six kills, while Diamond Ridley-Pierce had five kills.

Maya Kirkeby led all players with 16 digs, while Martinson had 14 and Klein recorded a double-double with 10 digs.  Rebecca Sponcil stepped in at setter to assist on 26 kills, while digging out six balls.  Ridley-Pierce and Breaux were each a part of three blocks.

Regis heads south to Silver City, N.M. to take on Western New Mexico on Friday night.
