Box Score Colorado Springs, Colo.: Senior Sage Martinson and junior Gina Morgan were each named to the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference Volleyball All-Academic First Team. Sophomore Rebecca Sponcil earned a spot on the honor roll. The first team was voted on by RMAC sports information directors.
Martinson, who was also named to the first team last season, moved to outside hitter this season after serving as the Rangers libero in 2012. The LaSalle, Colo. native will graduate next May with a degree in sociology and entered her senior season with a 3.93 grade point average. She averages 1.79 kills per set and is second on the team with a 2.49 dig per set average, while leading the team with 18 service aces. Martinson was a Third Team All-RMAC selection last fall for her efforts on the court.
Morgan was last season's inaugural recipient of the RMAC Summit Award which is given to the student-athlete with the highest GPA in each sports respective championships. Morgan, a Colorado Springs, Colo. native, sports a 3.96 grade point average and double majors in chemistry and environmental sciences. A Second Team All-Academic performer last season, Morgan ranks third on the team with a 2.03 kill per set average, while leading the team hitting at a .271 clip.
Sponcil has split time this season at setter and defensive specialist. She has earned a 3.56 GPA in four semesters and is majoring in accounting. She averages 1.57 digs and 2.34 assists per set as a sophomore.
