Rangers Outlast Langston 89-77; Marshall Sets Free Throw Record

Box Score

Denver, Colo.: The Ranger men's team improved to 3-1 on the season with an 89-77 win over Langston.

The Rangers and Lions went fast-paced basketball tonight with Langston pressing the Rangers almost the entire game.  The Rangers led 27-26 after a Devin Mitchell layup with 7:11 remaining in the first half.  That is when Regis went on an 11-2 run highlighted by a monstrous dunk by Kellen Link to go ahead 38-28 with 4:48 left in the first half.  The Rangers held onto that lead and led 46-35 at half.

The Rangers led by as many as nine in the second half before Langston started chipping away at the lead.  LU cut the lead to 60-59 on a three-point basket from Bobby Ward and again to 63-62 on a three pointer by Renard Green.  Green again hit a big three, giving the Lions their first lead of the second half at 65-64 with 7:46 remaining.

That is when Joseph Bodman and Spenser Reeb took over as they scored the Rangers next 11 points  to put Regis up 77-73 with just over four minutes left.  The pace slowed a little bit late in the game and Regis was able to control the Lions' pressure which in turn sent the Rangers to the line, in fact the Rangers shot 41 free throws, connecting on 33 of them.

Ward cut the Ranger lead to 79-76 after two free throws, but the Rangers defense allowed just one more point over the final 2:50 and connected on six free throws to ice the game 89-77.

Jarrett Green had a great night going 8-for-10 from the field and 7-for-7 from the free throw line for a game-high 24 points.  He also snared seven rebounds while dishing out two assists.  Bodman chipped in with 17 points and pulled down a team-best eight boards on 5-of-7 shooting.

Kevin Marshall went a perfect 12-for-12 from the free throw line which is the most made free throws without a miss in Regis history.  He also dished out eight assists and grabbed four rebounds.

Jon Conley came off the bench to supply 12 points on 5-of-7 shooting, while Kallen Link scored eight points, grabbed six rebounds and had two blocked shots.

Regis will host Northwestern Oklahoma State next Saturday afternoon at 2:00 p.m.
