Rangers Garner First Win in 82-61 Blowout over Aggies

GOLDEN, Colo.:  Regis women's basketball (1-2) earned their first victory today in the Mines Thanksgiving Classic hosted by Colorado School of Mines.  The Rangers put in some big work, grabbing a huge 82-61 win over the Aggies of Cameron University.

Commanding a 41-33 lead at halftime, Regis went on to outscore their opponents 41-28 in the second half to finish out with the win.

Regis held Cameron to a 29.4 percentage from the field at half, while shooting for 36.8 themselves.  Throughout the game, the Rangers managed to shoot for 39 percent from the field and caused CU 16 turnovers.

Despite a last minute effort by the Aggies to overcome their deficit, the Rangers maintained the advantage with big efforts on the court to subdue their opponent's push.

Five Rangers amassed double digit points after the game, including seniors Tae'lor Purdy and Brandi Collins, junior Jena Blasingame, sophomore Bay'lee Purdy and freshman Mackenzie McPhee.

Tae'lor Purdy led the team with 20 points on the night and 10 rebounds for her second double-double of the 2013-14 season.  She hit eight from the field including one three-pointer and went 3-for-5 from the charity stripe.

Fellow senior Collins was good for 14 points, after netting six from field goal range and putting up four rebounds and two three-pointers.

Blasingame had a big game on the court for the Rangers accumulating 11 points and nine assists for her team.  Bay'lee Purdy was good for 16 points and five rebounds after draining four from long distance and a total of six from the field.

McPhee also had a breakout performance netting 10 points and pulling down four boards in 22 minutes.  Freshman Karlyn Johnson also had nine boards for RU.

RU will continue on in the Mines Thanksgiving Classic tomorrow, November 30 at 3:00 p.m., taking on Trevecca Nazarene University to close out the tournament.
