Colorado Springs, Colo.: The Regis University men's basketball team narrowly lost to Colorado State on Saturday night and on Sunday was pitted against fellow Mountain West Conference foe Air Force for their final exhibition game of the season. The Rangers hit 12 three pointers and shocked the Falcons 70-65.
Senior Jarrett Green was the catalyst offensively for the Rangers and started the game connecting on three straight three pointers to put Regis ahead 9-2 after two minutes of play. The Rangers kept stretching the lead and led by as many as 16 points with 4:32 left in the first half. Air Force finished the last 4:02 of the half on an 11-0 run to cut the Ranger lead to 32-27.
Air Force tied the game in the second half at 35, 39, 41, 45, and 48 before taking their first lead at 50-48 with 8:01 remaining. That lead would be short-lived as on the next possession the Rangers went to their hot hand in Green who put Regis back up for good with one of his eight three pointers.
The Ranger offense and defense was too much too handle for the Falcons and Regis hit 10 free throws in a row to close out the game and give the Rangers the 70-65 victory.
Green led all players with 30 points on 9-of-18 shooting including 8-of-14 from long range. Joseph Bodman was the other double-figure scorer with 11 points, while grabbing seven rebounds. Kevin Marshall chipped in with nine points and a game-high eight assists.
Regis was highly efficient as they assisted on 20-of-their-23 field goals (87 percent) and also outrebounded Air Force 35-25. A night ago the Rangers struggled from the free throw line but today they hit at a 75 percent clip, 12-of-16.
Spenser Reeb came off the bench to supply eight points and three assists. Mike MacKelvie led all players with nine rebounds while getting five points. He dished out six assists and had one steal.
The Rangers will have a week off before heading to Alaska to take on Alaska-Fairbanks and Alaska-Anchorage on November 15-16.
