Box Score Chadron, Neb.: The Regis men's basketball team found tough sledding on the road as they fell to Chadron State 67-61 in their first RMAC road game of the season.
Following a layup by Nathaniel Boykin of Chadron State (5-4, 2-3 RMAC) Mike MacKelvie tied the score at two making two free throws on the Rangers third possession. That would be the only tie of the game and Regis (3-6, 0-4 RMAC) was unable to take the lead the entire game.
CSC scored eight of the next 10 points to lead 10-4 with 17:19 left. It took nearly two and a half minutes before either team scored when Jarrett Green hit a three pointer with 14:55 left. The two teams went back-and-forth the rest of the first half and RU cut the lead again to three on a long range bomb from Spenser Reeb who led the Rangers with 13 points off the bench.
Chadron State led at half 40-30 and led by as many as 11 points early in the second half before Regis made a late run. Joseph Bodman hit two free throws with 5:19 left in the game to cut the lead to 54-52. Jarrett Green again cut the lead to two at 56-54 on a jumper at the 4:46 mark.
CSC scored the next six points to take an eight-point lead with 3:37 remaining. Regis again chipped away and a Kevin Marshall layup with just over a minute left made it a one possession game at 64-61. That would be the last points the Rangers would score as Chadron sealed it by making 3-of-4 down the stretch for the 67-61 win.
MacKelvie tied Reeb with 13 points, while also supplying five rebounds and three steals and three assists. Marshall had a team-best four assists to go along with 12 points. Jon Conley came off the bench to lead the team with six rebounds, four of them on the offense end.
RU will travel north to take on Black Hills State on Saturday evening.
