Regis Goes Cold in Second Half in 71-61 Loss to Colorado Christian

Box Score

Denver, Colo.: Colorado Christian shot 63 percent in the second half to the Rangers 34.6 percent and turned a nine-point deficit into a 10-point win over Regis.

Regis (6-13, 5-11 RMAC) led 33-24 at half but were outscored 47-28 in the second half by Colorado Christian (11-13, 6-10 RMAC).  The two teams had a tough time finding the bottom of the net in the first 16 minutes of the first half but Regis finished the half on a run.

With 4:41 left in the first stanza CCU tied the game at 22 with a jumper by Joel Hegarty.  A minute later, freshman Billy Hansen started the run for Regis with a three pointer from the right wing.  The Rangers scored 11 of the final 13 points of the half to take a 33-24 lead into halftime.

The Rangers came out of the lockerroom and scored on their first possession on a layup by sophomore Dylan King to give the Rangers their biggest lead of the game at 11 points.  CCU started chipping away at the lead and went on a 16-5 lead the final two on two free throws from Avery Richmond to tie the game at 40 with 13:03 left..

Junior Joseph Bodman hit a layup with just under 10 minutes left, two of his game-high 18 points, to knot the score at 49.  Senior Demitrius Owens then hit 1-of-2 at the free throw line with 8:42 left to give the Rangers a 50-49 lead.

Unfortunately, that would be the last lead they would have as the Cougars finished the game on a 22-11 run to close out the Rangers 71-61.

Regis hit just 2-of-15 from long range and turned the ball over 18 times.  Bodman notched his first double-double of his Regis career with 10 rebounds to go along with his 18 points.  He was 9-for-13 from the field and was joined in double figures by Owens with 12 points and Marshall with 11.

Marshall set a career high with nine assists, the 12th most in school history and also led all Rangers with three steals.

Regis will host Colorado Mines on Saturday night at 5:00 p.m.
