Box Score 2 DENVER, Colo.: Regis University softball (2-19, 1-9 RMAC) dropped two to start their weekend pod tournament against Colorado School of Mines and Metro State. The Rangers fell 8-1 to Metro State to start the day and finished with an 11-5 loss to #10 Colorado Mines.
Shannon Massine put in a 2-for-4 performance to help the Ranger effort against the RoadRunners, but Regis was unable to overcome a 4-0 deficit in the second inning. They put another run up in the sixth, but Metro's extra four runs in the bottom of the inning put the Rangers under.
Sophomore Sydney Gaffin received the loss after slinging 4.2 innings, striking out three in 31 batters faced. Freshman Rachelle Knudson also saw some time in the circle, facing one batter in the first game.
Regis put four runs up on nationally ranked #10 Colorado School of Mines in the second inning to start the second game. They kept the lead despite several Oredigger attempts until the fifth inning when Mines put seven in on the Ranger defense.
In the second inning, junior Alyssa Beskid singled to center field to start off the Ranger bats. She was followed by a long double to right center by junior Sam Talmich and they both were brought in o a big single up the middle by sophomore Beth Petersen.
Sophomore Rachel Illias and senior Shannon Massine would also snag an RBI apiece in the inning.
The Rangers put another run on the board in the seventh inning on a fielder's choice hit by freshman Nicole Hull that brought in Illias.
Hull (2-6) struck out five while allowing seven hits in four innings pitched. Knudson saw two innings as well, allowing three hits.
The Rangers will take on Colorado School of Mines at 12:00 PM tomorrow, March 17 and Metro State at 2:00 PM tomorrow, March 17 to finish up this weekend's RMAC play.
