Box Score 2 DENVER, Colo.: Regis softball dropped the opening doubleheader in their RMAC series with the Eagles of Chadron State College. Regis falls to 7-28 on the season, 6-18 in the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference.
Chadron went four runs up on Regis in the first inning. They continued in the fourth in fifth with two and four runs respectively to snag 10 runs overall in the game.
Regis attempted to rally in the fourth and fifth inning, but could not close the gap before the end of the fifth.
In the fourth, freshman Nicole Hull laced a long ball past the left field fence to put the Rangers on the board.
In the fifth inning, senior Bre Backlund started things off with a single to center field. She moved to second on a groundout to the second baseman by fellow senior Shannon Massine. Sophomore Rachel Illias doubled to left center to bring Backlund all the way around to home, before the Eagles ended the inning and game 10-2 over the Rangers.
Hull went 2-for-3 at the plate with one RBI and one run. In the circle, the right-hander sent six back to the pine, while allowing eight hits and seven runs in 25 batters. Fellow freshman Rachelle Knudson faced three batters as well.
Backlund, Massine, Illias, senior Micheala Carbonneau, junior Sam Talmich and sophomore Brianna Bogdajewicz each had one hit in the game.
Regis scored first in game two, putting a quick run up in the first inning on a single to centerfield by sophomore Taylor Wilcox.
That would be the last Ranger run however, as the Eagles put up seven throughout the game to secure a 7-1 victory.
Backlund, Wilcox, Bogdajewicz and juniors Keala Bertulfo and Shelby Wieman each put up one hit for Regis in the second game.
Sophomore Sydney Gaffin slung seven innings, striking out two in her effort.
Regis will face off against Chadron State again tomorrow, April 14 in a doubleheader starting at 11:00 a.m.
