Box Score 2 PUEBLO, Colo.: Regis softball (12-29, 11-19) scored 19 runs throughout day two of their Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference series with CSU-Pueblo, aiding in their effort to snag two big wins and finish 3-1 on the weekend.
In game one, Regis went down 7-4 by the fourth inning. RU crossed one run in fifth, five in the sixth and three in the seventh to come back for a big victory.
Junior Keala Bertulfo went 3-for-4 with three RBIs, a double and a homerun at the plate. Sophomore Taylor Wilcox put in a 3-for-5 performance in the batter's box, while crossing the plate two times in the game. Fellow sophomore Rachel Illias went 2-for-3 with two RBIs and a walk as well.
Seniors Bre Backlund and Alyssa Beskid, junior Shelby Wieman and sophomores Brianna Bogdajewicz and Nicole Hull each put up one hit for the Rangers in game one.
Sophomore Sydney Gaffin went 3.2 innings in the circle, striking out one and allowing nine hits in the effort. Hull finished up the final 3.1 innings, allowing two hits and no runs while striking out three.
Hull (8-11) continued with the start in game two, going all 8.0 innings, allowing only five hits and three runs while striking out three.
Regis went up early in the first inning before the ThunderWolves crossed two runs in the second. RU evened things up n the third before allowing CSUP to recover the lead in the fifth.
With the thought of the day's previous victory still fresh, the Rangers picked up some momentum in the seventh inning, rallying to tie things up 3-3 and send the game into extra innings.
Hull started things off, reaching after being hit in the box by the T-Wolves right-hander. Then, Wieman reached on an error by the catcher that would send Hull all the way to third base.
Bertulfo singled to left field to bring Hull across the plate right before Pueblo forced two outs.
With two outs and a one-run lead, RU was up for some insurance runs. Backlund reached on a bunt single that scored both freshman pinch runner Ashley Prescott and Bertulfo with the help of an error by the ThunderWolves' catcher.
Backlund, Illias and senior Shannon Massine each had two hits in the game. Backlund and Massine with two RBIs and one stolen base apiece. Bertulfo and Beskid each put up one hit for the Rangers as well.
Regis will head back home next weekend to take on New Mexico Highlands on Saturday and Sunday, April 27 and 28. Doubleheaders on Saturday start at noon and on Sunday begin at 11:00 a.m.
The four seniors, Bre Backlund, Alyssa Beskid, Michaela Carbonneau and Shannon Massine will be honored between games.
