Box Score 2 DENVER, Colo.: Despite a rough start this season, Regis softball finished big, scoring 18 runs on 18 hits throughout the day. The Rangers finish 2013 14-31 overall and 13-21 in the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference.
NMHU went up early in the first inning of game one, but it would be the last time the Cowgirls would cross the plate all game.
RU answered with a run of their own in the bottom of the first.
Neither team would add another run until a big Ranger inning in the fourth.
Regis plated three runs, starting with a solo, very long ball out past the left field fence by freshman Nicole Hull. Senior Shannon Massine then followed up with a single up the middle to snag an RBI and later in the inning, the Cowgirl batter would finish loading the bases and walk one in.
In the fifth inning junior Sam Talmich put a sacrifice bunt down to bring the Rangers up 5-1 over their opponents.
With a four-run lead, RU headed into the sixth inning. Regis loaded the bases with hits by senior Bre Backlund and sophomore Rachel Illias, and an error by the shortstop that worked in Massine's favor.
The Rangers would manage three runs throughout the inning and shut the Cowgirls in the top of seven to win 8-1.
Backlund, Massine, Illias and Hull each had two hits at the plate, while sophomore Taylor Wilcox had one hit and two RBIs in the game. Sophomore Brianna Bogdajewicz also had one hit for RU.
Hull (9-11) went the full seven innings for Regis. The right-hander sat down two and allowed only three hits and one run in the performance.
Regis earned the game two victory early, and stomped on Highlands rallying efforts throughout game two.
RU led off the first inning with a run when Backlund scored on a groundout from Illias. The Rangers put three up in the third to manage a bigger lead before allowing the Cowgirls one run in the fourth to start a comeback.
Regis would not have any of that however as the team put up six runs in the bottom of the fourth to edge out Highlands 10-1.
Sophomore Sydney Gaffin completed all five innings in the circle, allowing seven hits and only one run while sending two back to the pine swinging.
Backlund, Massine and Illias all had two hits apiece yet again, Illias with four RBIs and Backlund and Massine with one each.
Wilcox and senior Micheala Carbonneau each had a hit and an RBI in the game.
