Box Score 2 Lakewood, Colo.: The Regis baseball team is trying to improve their seed in next weeks RMAC Tournament and helped their cause by winning two games over Colorado Christian by scores of 12-9 and 7-3.
The two teams combined to score in every inning except for two in the first game. Regis scored two in the first stanza with RBIs from Steven Brault and Tony Schicktanz. Schicktanz wasn't done driving in runs as his three-run homerun in the sixth inning took the score from a 6-5 lead to a 9-5 lead.
Colorado Christian scored two runs in the sixth and one more in the seventh cutting the lead to 9-8 before Regis put up three insurance runs in the eighth. Schicktanz led off the inning with a double and Ty Overboe came up next and drove him in with a single to center. Willy Gustin then singled and then a wild pitch put them at second and third. Two batters later, Bob Terry was hit by pitch to load the bases.
With two outs, Cody Hastings singled to left field to drive in two and put Regis ahead 12-8. Colorado Christian scored one run in the eighth and then went down in order in the ninth to give Regis the 12-9 win.
Shicktanz went 4-for-5 with five RBIs, three runs scored and two doubles. Nick Billinger, Hastings, Brault, Jon Shoutta and Overboe all collected two hits apiece. The 1-6 hitters for Regis went 14-for-31 (.452). Hastings drove in three runs, while Billinger, Brault and Shotta each crossed the plate twice.
Brault also earned the win on the mound, his seventh of the season against just three losses. He went five innings, while striking out four. Jordan Blaylock came on late and pitched the final 3 1/3 innings to earn the save.
Game two was a little more offensive but Regis got the game started with five runs in the first inning. Billinger and Hastings each successfully reached base and Brault came to the plate and laced a double to right center to drive them in.
Schicktanz, Gustin and John Tosches each had an RBI in the first inning. Colorado Christian (6-39, 4-32) got three runs back in the fifth inning but Regis starter Kirby Schwein was able to stop the bleeding there and cruised the rest of the way for his 10th win of the season, against just one loss.
Regis (25-15, 20-14 RMAC) scored two insurance runs in the sixth inning. Billinger scored on a wild pitch and Gustin scored Brault when he was walked with the bases loaded.
Schwein went the distance allowing just the three runs and giving up no walks. Ty Overboe was 3-for-3 with one run scored, while Brault went 2-for-2 with two intentional walks, a double and two RBIs. Gustin also went 2-for-2 and drove in two runs himself.
The same two teams will play a doubleheader today with first pitch set for noon.
