Box Score Denver, Colo.: The 22nd-ranked Rangers won the first two sets against Colorado Christian but the stubborn Cougars won the next two sets to force a fifth set. Regis took the fifth set to hold off CCU.
The Rangers, now 7-5 overall and 3-0 in the RMAC, won the first two sets by scores of 25-16 and 25-22. CCU (4-7, 0-3 RMAC), who was a NCAA qualifier a season ago, came back to win set three 25-23. CCU led 19-17 before two Cougar attack errors and a service ace by Gina Morgan gave the Rangers a 20-19 lead. CCU regained the lead and led 23-21 before siding out twice to take set three.
The Rangers then played one of their worst sets of the season in set four as Colorado Christian cruised to a 25-13 win. That would set up the fifth and deciding set, an exciting fifth and deciding set.
The two teams traded points and following one of Sage Martinson's 10 kills, RU led 7-6. However, CCU responded with three straight points to lead 9-7. Regis Head Coach Frank Lavrisha took a timeout to regroup his team. Following the timeout, CCU's Summer Greager served the ball into the net to cut the CCU lead in half.
CCU led 10-8 before Regis, who was energized by a rowdy crowd, reeled off four straight points including two kills from Caitie Breaux put Regis ahead for good at 12-10. CCU cut the lead to 12-11 on a Taylor Sturm kill, one of her game-high 20.
The Rangers wouldn't let the Cougars get anymore points as they rode the arms of Breaux, Diamond Ridley-Pierce and finally Katie Klein, who put home the final point.
Klein and Breaux each put down 15 kills, with Klein hitting at a .355 attack percentage. Martinson chipped in with 10, while Ridley-Pierce put down eight. Ridley-Pierce and Gina Morgan each collected three blocks.
Maya Kirkeby had a match-high 20 digs, while Jaclyn Williamson had 46 assists and 12 digs. Martinson was second on the team with 15 digs. The Rangers beat CCU by nine points in the serving game as they had seven service aces to just three for CCU, while serving just five errors compared to 10 for the Cougars.
CCU out-hit the Rangers .186 to .147 and had 14 blocks compared to just six for the Rangers.
