San Bernardino, Calif.: The 13th-ranked Regis University volleyball team finished the first day of the CSU-San Bernardino Coyote Classic with a 1-1 record.  The Rangers began with a tough 3-2 win over CSU-Los Angeles but fell to 22nd-ranked UC-San Diego in straight sets.

RU took the first set 25-18 over CSU-Los Angeles but they struggled in the next two sets falling 25-20 and 25-17.  The Ranger women then turned it on and won sets three and four by scores of 25-15 and 15-8.

Katie Klein led the offense with 18 kills, while Caitie Breaux and Sage Martinson each collected 10 kills.   Gina Morgan had nine kills, while Diamond Ridley-Pierce came off the bench to lead the team with a .462 attack percentage (8-2-13).

Maya Kirkeby and Alessandra Orlandini topped the Rangers in digs with 23 and 22 respectively.  The RMAC Preseason Defensive Player of the Year, Martinson, collected 16.

The Ranger offense... and defense for that matter had troubles against UC-San Diego in the 21-25, 13-25, 17-25 loss.  The Rangers hit just .064 and allowed UCSD to hit .252.

Breaux led the offense with 11 kills while Kirkeby led the defense with 17 digs.

Regis plays two more games on Saturday as they take on Sonoma State at 12:00 p.m. (Pacific Time) and host CSU-San Bernardino at 7:30 p.m.
