Rangers Rally in the Second; Close Call but not Enough to Overtake #4 Colorado Mesa

Box Score

DENVER, Colo.:  It was a huge night for the Rangers (9-8, 7-6), taking on nationally ranked #4 Colorado Mesa Mavericks (17-0, 13-0 RMAC) to attempt to give them their first loss of the season.

The Mavs put it on the Rangers in the first handing them a 22 point deficit going into halftime with the home team down 46-24.  Regis outscored their opponents in the second 43-41, but it was not enough to overcome the first half deficit for the win.

Regis closed up the Mesa lead to 10 points throughout the second half, first at 12:36 with a 48-58 difference and again three times throughout the game before the Mavs put Regis under and allowed them no more chances to close the gap.

Sophomore Bay'lee Purdy had another big night for RU with 22 big points, six of which came from long distance.  She hit seven total from the field and went 2-2 at the charity stripe along with two boards and one assist, block and steal.

Freshman Kaycee Hert stayed consistent as well with 16 points and six rebounds.  She hit seven from the field and went 2-2 from the stripe as well as owning five of her rebounds on the defensive.

Senior Tae'lor Purdy kept her double figure points up with 14 points on the night and was just shy of another double-double with nine rebounds to her name.

The Rangers will continue their home contests next weekend on Friday and Saturday, January 31 and February 1.  On Friday, RU will take on Black Hills State at 5:00 p.m. before competing on Saturday against Chadron State at 3:00 p.m.
