Box Score Silver City, N.M.: Senior guard Jarrett Green poured in a career-high 31 points and helped the Rangers snap a six-game skid with a 74-67 win at Western New Mexico.
Regis (4-7, 1-5 RMAC) trailed early 7-5 before going on a 14-4 run during a six-minute stretch. A Jon Conley layup with 2:18 left put Regis ahead 32-26, but the Rangers were unable to score the rest of the way and Western New Mexico (1-9, 1-6 RMAC) was able to score six in a row to even the score at 32 heading into the halftime break.
The second half was close for the first 10 minutes with five ties, the last coming on a three pointer by Edward Estavillo with 9:26 left. RU had another run in them scoring the next nine points to take a 60-51 lead with just over six minutes left in the second stanza.
The Mustangs were only able to cut the lead to five, a couple different times and Regis connected on 14-of-16 over the final four minutes to secure the 74-67 victory.
Jarrett Green connected on 9-of-18 from the field while going 10-for-11 from the free throw line. His 31 points are the most points scored by a Rangers since Curtis Mitchell went for 34 against Chadron State on February 20, 2010. Green also pulled down a team-best six boards.
Kevin Marshall chipped in with nine points and six assists with just one turnover in 37 minutes. Bryan Siefker had eight points and also grabbed six rebounds, while Mike MacKelvie came off the bench to also put in eight points. Joe Bodman also collected six rebounds for RU which outrebounded Western New Mexico 41-25.
The Rangers will stay in New Mexico and take on New Mexico Highlands on Saturday evening.
