Box Score Golden, Colorado: For the second straight game the Regis University Ranger women's soccer team has required extra minutes to earn a hard fought Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference win. The Rangers handed the No. 4 Colorado School of Mines Orediggers (10-1-2, 7-1-1 RMAC) their first RMAC loss in a Wednesday night overtime thriller. Before tonight, the Orediggers sat atop the RMAC remaining unbeaten in conference play until the Rangers once again dug deep and found a way.
All the goals came late in the match. Mines opened the scoring in the 79th minute of play but sophomore defender Maison O'Neil (Boise, Idaho) evened the score shortly after in the 82nd minute scoring her first goal of the season. She connected on a point blank header served into the box from senior defender Rebecca Brunson (Albuquerque, New Mexico).
Even though the Rangers were outshot 25-10, an impressive defensive performance from an already proven solid backline and strong goalkeeping extended this battle past regulation and into overtime. Freshman forward Mickie Piechowski (Boise, Idaho) notched her second goal of the year lifting the Rangers to a 2-1 victory in the 97th minute of play. She received a ball from freshman defender Maggie Saras (Boise, Idaho) and found the back of the net for the game-winner.
Sophomore goalkeeper Kat Crump (Huntsville, Alabama) unquestionably performed at her best tonight to only allow one goal after facing 25 shots and making 11 saves, six in the first half and five in the second. Her 11 saves marks a season high and career best. Regis moves to an overall record of 9-3-1 and 7-2 in the RMAC.
The Rangers return home on Sunday, October 19 at 12 p.m. as they host Colorado Mesa (0-9-3, 0-6-2 RMAC).
