Box Score Golden, Colorado - The Ranger offense couldn't keep pace with the Oredigger offense as No. 9 Colorado Mines defeats Regis for the second time in less than a week, this time 3-0.
Colorado Mines (19-2, 12-1 RMAC) jumped out early and often in set one and cruised to a 25-18 win. CSM led Regis (14-7, 9-4 RMAC) 19-12 but the Rangers kept it close down the stretch. CSM led just 10-8 before going on an 8-1 run that put the set out of reach and they took set two 25-17.
Regis led briefly in set three at 11-9 but the defending RMAC Champions scored the next eight points to lead 17-11 but Regis battled back to trail just 19-16 after a kill by Caitie Breaux. RU cut the lead again to three at 22-19 following a service ace by Breaux and a kill by Maggie Steward cut the lead to 24-21 but a kill by Alana Winfield ended the chances for Regis as the Orediggers took the set and the match 25-21.
RU hit just .144, compared to .301 to Colorado Mines. The Rangers had just one more attack error but Colorado Mines had an astounding 52 kills to 31 for Regis.
Mary Schroeder had nine kills to lead the way for RU, while Breaux picked up seven more and Steward seven. Rebecca Sponcil had 29 assists and five digs, while Maya Kirkeby led the way with 15 digs. Alessandra Orlandini had 11 digs and Gina Morgan led the Rangers with three total blocks.
The road doesn't get any easier for Regis as they head to cross-town rival and nationally ranked Metro State on Saturday afternoon at 4 pm.
