Box Score Colorado Springs, Colorado - The Ranger volleyball team continues their winning way by defeating the University of Colorado Colorado Springs Mountain Lions in straight sets for their eighth straight win.
The Rangers (13-4, 8-1 RMAC) came out in set one and committed just one error in winning 25-14. The Rangers led the entire first set and with a slim 10-8 lead started to pull away and finished the set on a 15-6 run. Caitie Breaux had five kills, while Alessandra Orlandini came up with seven digs.
Set two was much tighter from the get go. RU led 3-1 before UCCS (9-9, 5-4 RMAC) came back to take a 4-3 lead. The Rangers pulled away a little in the middle of the set leading 14-9 before UCCS Head Coach Chrissy Elder took a timeout. Her team responded and they battled all the way back to tie the game at 19 and eventually led 21-19. Regis Head Coach Frank Lavrisha called timeout to settle his team down. The ladies responded by scoring the final five points including three kills by Mary Schroeder to complete the comeback 25-22.
Set three was also close but the defense of senior Maya Kirkeby propelled the Rangers to a 25-22 win. Kirkeby had an astounding 12 digs in set three and 23 total. Regis led 22-17 before UCCS came back with a 3-0 run to trail just 22-20 and then cut the lead to 23-22 before a kill by Gina Morgan and a service ace by Drew Rhamy closed the game out.
Schroeder had a team-best 11 kills, while Caitie Breaux put down 10 kills with just two errors and seven digs. Morgan and Maggie Steward each collected nine kills. Rebecca Sponcil dished out 35 assists and had 13 digs, while Alessandra Orlandini came up with 11. Kirkeby was second for Regis with seven assists.
Regis will take on Colorado Christian on Friday night in Lakewood at 7:00 p.m.
