Box Score Denver, Colo.: Three scored in double-digits to lift the Regis University Ranger women's basketball team over the Chadron State Eagles (1-8, 1-4 RMAC). The Rangers kept the Eagles at a comfortable distance for much of the game defeating the visitors 69-59.
Chadron State went basket-for-basket at the start of the game before a Karlyn Johnson (Littleton, Colorado) layup tied the score at 8-8 just five minutes in. The Rangers would then hold the Eagles to four scoreless minutes taking control of the lead 16-8.
Chadron State continued to fight but Regis always had an answer extending their lead to as much as 13 on a made free by junior guard Caresse Williams (Citrus Heights, California) at the 3:50 mark. The Eagles made a final push going on an 8-3 run to bring the score to 33-28 at halftime.
CSC started off the second half with a big three-point basket to come within three but the Rangers never looked worried. Another three-point basket by Emma Block at the 6:54 mark would bring the Eagles within four, the closest they would get for the remainder of the game. Regis forced 29 turnovers and converted 25 while tallying 15 steals to help close out the victory.
Williams led RU in points with 19 on 6-11 from the field and 7-9 from the charity stripe. She also added seven rebounds, two offensive and five defensive, dished out two assists, and grabbed two steals. Junior guard Bay'lee Purdy (Agate, Colorado) went 6-13 from the field and 4-6 from distance to finish with 16 points. The final Ranger rounding out the double-digits was Johnson helping with 12. Regis also won the battle of the boards, 34-26.
RU plays their final game of 2014 Saturday, December 20 at 3 p.m. against Black Hills State (4-4, 3-2 RMAC).
