Box Score Lakewood, Colo.: The Regis men's basketball team couldn't hold onto a late lead and fell to Colorado Mines 84-77.
Regis (7-14, 4-12 RMAC) and Colorado Christian (11-9, 9-7 RMAC) couldn't quite keep the same pace offensively as they did earlier in the season when CCU defeated the Rangers 119-105 at the Regis Fieldhouse. CCU led early but Regis battled back to tie the game at 19 with just under eight minutes left in the first half.
The Cougars then went on a 13-2 run to take a 32-21 lead with 5:18 remaining. The Rangers were unable to cut the halftime lead any closer than three points where following a Spenser Reeb jumper, the Rangers failed to score over the final 2:53 of the first half and trailed 41-32.
Early in the second half, the Cougars went ahead 46-36 but the RU defense allowed just two points over a four and a half minute stretch in which the Rangers outscored CCU 19-2. The Rangers led by as many as eight in the second half but CCU kept clawing their way back in the game.
Jon Conley made it a 76-72 game with 3:34 follwing a layup but Colorado Christian scored on two consecutive trips to take a 77-76 lead with 3:07 left. The Rangers scored just one point over the final 3:22 and CCU went 7-of-7 from the free throw line down the stretch to win 84-77.
Jarrett Green led the way for Regis with 21 points, 17 of which came in the second half. He dished out a game-high six assists to go along with three boards. Mike MacKelvie put in 12 points as did Reeb off the bench. MacKelvie had six rebounds and three assists.
Kevin Marshall and Jon Conley each scored 10 points and grabbed seven rebounds. Marshall had four assists, while Corbin Green and Bryan Siefker each collected six points.
Regis will head to Golden, Colo. on Saturday to take on nationally ranked Colorado Mines.
