Box Score 2 LAS VEGAS, N.M.: Regis softball continued strong Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference play with a split against N.M. Highlands University. Highlands took the first game in a 7-0 shutout over Regis, but the Rangers warmed up their bats for game two finishing with a big 16-6 win over the opposition.
NMHU put up five runs in the first two innings to start off the series, putting one more each on the board in the fifth and sixth innings to complete the 7-0 decision.
Juniors Britney Lee and Sydney Gaffin both put some time in the circle, with Lee collecting the loss after allowing four hits and five runs in her two innings of work. Gaffin closed out the last four innings, allowing seven hits and two runs while striking out one.
In the second game sophomore Nicole Hull put in another big performance throughout seven innings of work. She allowed 11 hits and six runs while striking out seven in 36 batters faced.
Regis started off hot after collecting one run in the second, three in the third and fourt in the fifth. RU finished out the game with eight runs in the seventh inning while the Cowgirls only managed three runs in both the fifth and sixth innings.
One the day, junior Taylor Wilcox led the team with a .571 batting average throughout both games after going 4-7 with one double and a .714 slugging percentage and .667 on-base percentage.
Freshmen trio Bradey King, Alyssa Finger and Carlie Sexton also put in quite the performance. King led RU with five hits on the day in 10 at bats. She had one double and calculated a .600 slugging percentage.
Finger and Sexton both had three hits apiece. Sexton tallied one RBI and a .375 batting average while Finger homered in two RBIs with her second homerun of the season.
