Rangers Rally Against UC-Colorado Springs but Fall 76-73

Colorado Springs, Colo.: The Regis men's basketball squad had another close battle with UC-Colorado Springs on Friday night but fell to the Mountain Lions 76-73.  The Rangers were outscored at the free throw line 18-6 with UCCS shooting 26 and RU just six.

UCCS (19-6, 16-5 RMAC) jumped out to an early 9-0 lead before Regis (7-19, 4-17 RMAC) responded with a 17-4 run to take a 17-13 lead with 10:57 left in the first half.  Senior Jarrett Green, who led the Rangers with 29 points, scored the final eight points of the first half and propelled the Rangers to a 35-32 lead at the break.

RU got a basket early in the second half to take a 37-32 lead but then the Mountain Lions went on a 14-3 run to lead 46-40 with 15:40 remaining in the second half.  UCCS, having one of their best seasons in program history, slowly started building their lead and took a 59-48 lead with 12:42 remaining.

Spenser Reeb hit a three pointer at the 5:46 mark to take their first lead in 13 minutes, 66-63, capping off a 18-4 run.  Over the next four minutes Regis scored just four points while UCCS went 6-for-8 and stretched their lead to 72-70 with just 1:26 left.

Following two Derrick White free throws, Green again connected on a three that cut the Mountain Lion lead to 74-73 with 43 seconds remaining.  The Rangers got a great opportunity when White, who is the second leading scorer in the RMAC, was called for an offensive foul.  The Rangers returned the favor when Corbin Green was called for an offensive foul.  

Tim Billingsley hit two free throws with just eight seconds left to stretch the lead to three.  Jarrett Green got a look at a three for the tie but it was no good, giving UCCS the 76-73 win.

Jarrett Green connected on 12-of-24 from the field including a team-high five assists.  Corbin Green added 12 points, while Joseph Bodman and Reeb, who came off the bench, each supplied 10 points.  Bodman led the team with six rebounds with Reeb right behind with five.

The Rangers will wrap up their season Saturday night as they take on CSU-Pueblo in Pueblo, Colo.
