Chadron Battery Too Much For Regis; Rangers Drop Both on Day Two

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2

DENVER, Colo.:  Chadron State pitcher Kylee Polsley had the Rangers number today as she allowed only six hits in two complete games, shutting out the Rangers 4-0 in game one and 5-0 in game two.

In game one, Senior Keala Bertulfo and freshman Carlie Sexton were the only two to manage to get on base with a hit.

Sexton smoked a line drive to center field in the fourth inning while Bertulfo laced one out to center as well as a last effort in the seventh.  Each single was followed with the Eagles shutting the door on the Rangers' efforts.

Junior Sydney Gaffin put in some good work in the circle, allowing five hits and no earned runs (four unearned) in seven innings of work.  She struck out two and walked none in 29 batters faced.

In game two, Regis went down early in the first inning after CSC ripped a solo homerun off the first pitch of the game to start things off.

With the momentum in Chadron's favor, Regis had a hard time getting the ball rolling in the innings to follow, putting up only four hits throughout the game.

In the second inning junior Taylor Wilcox put up a single to left center to start of the inning, but Regis could not manage to bring her around to break the goose egg.

In the next inning, sophomore Ashley Prescott beat out  a smart bunt to get on base and moved over to second on a fielder's choice ball that the second baseman over through in her attempt at second.  The next Ranger then hit a liner to the third baseman who turned the hit into an inning ended double play.

Wilcox tried again to get things moving in the second inning after junior Rachel Illias walked to get on second.  Wilcox singled to right center to put two Rangers on base with no outs but RU went three up, three down to end the promising inning.

Bertulfo snagged a hit in the second game well (2-3 on the day), lacing out a single to left field with two outs, but Regis didn't have the power to keep things going.

RU fell in the seventh 5-0.  Junior Britney Lee and sophomore Rachelle Knudson both spent time in the circle.

Lee struck out six while allowing only three hits in 5.2 innings of work.  She allowed five earned runs in 24 batters faced.  In the final 1.1 innings, Knudson stuck out one and allowed only one hit in six total batters.

Next weekend, the Rangers will head across town to Metro State to take on both the Roadrunners and the Mustangs of Western New Mexico.  The game will take place on Saturday and Sunday, March 15-16.
