Box Score 2 DENVER, Colo.: It's always an interesting showing when the Ranger's Golden, Colo. neighbors come to town and today was no different as the Rangers put up 18 hits on the day including a 12-hit output in game two to help RU split 1-1 this Sunday against the Orediggers.
CSM took game one 10-2 while the Rangers garnered a 10-8 advantage in game two.
Game one was all Mines as the Orediggers outscored the home team 10-2 in the game after putting up 14 hits to the Rangers six.
Mines went up 6-0 over Regis before the Rangers added two runs in the bottom of the third frame to attempt to rally back into the game. CSM shut RU down with another run in the fourth and three in the fifth to close out game one with a 10-2 win.
Junior Taylor Wilcox and sophomore Nicole Hull both had two hits and an RBI in the game, with Wilcox going 2-2 with a walk and Hull putting in a 2-3 performance.
Juniors Britney Lee and Sydney Gaffin split time in the circle with Lee going strong for three innings, striking out four and allowing five earned runs and six runs during her time. Gaffin came in strong for Regis finishing the game and eventually pitching a near complete game for game two. She allowed four earned runs and seven hits in her first outing.
Regis owned game two early despite Mines 3-0 lead after the top of the first frame. RU answered with four runs of their own in the first and six more through the fifth inning to go up 10-3 over the Orediggers.
In a huge last effort, Mines drove in four runs in the sixth and one in the seventh to make it a close 10-8 game. Regis managed to shut the door on the opposition in the seventh to finish out the day with a well-deserved win.
Gaffin pitched a full 6.2 innings, giving up 12 hits and eight runs, five of which were earned. She faced 37 batters in game two alone. Sophomore Rachelle Knudson finished off the last two batters, putting in one walk to start her outing, but shutting things down with a pop out to third base.
Wilcox and senior Keala Bertulfo each had four hits on the day, with Bertulfo owning three RBIs, two runs and a homer and Wilcox owning two RBIS, three runs, a walk and a double.
Hull had three hits throughout both games while senior Shelby Wieman and freshman Carlie Sexton each had two hits. Juniors Brianna Bogdajewicz and Rachel Illias and sophomore Ashley Prescott also added a hit for the Rangers.
Regis will continue the series against Mines tomorrow, March 24 in a doubleheader beginning at 1 and 3 p.m. at the Regis Softball Field in Denver, Colo.
