Regis Softball Splits Day One with Chadron; Win Game Two 9-1 in Five Innings

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2

DENVER, Colo.:  Regis softball went 1-1 on the diamond this afternoon, dropping game one 5-3 to the Chadron State College Eagles before taking game two in five innings with a 9-1 decision.

On the day, freshman Carlie Sexton led the Rangers with four hits.  She went 4-4 in game two alone with one RBI, a double and crossed the plate once.

Sophomore Nicole Hull led RU with six RBIs, four of which came in game two off a huge grand slam in the second inning.

Junior Rachel Illias went 3-4 on the day with three RBIs while juniors Taylor Wilcox and Brianna Bogdajewicz each had two hits and a double on the day.

In game one, Regis took a 1-0 lead in the first inning but the opposition answered in the top of the next frame with two runs of their own.  Not ready to throw in the towel, Regis put two more across the plate in the third inning but CSC was quick to tie the game yet again in the next inning.

In a last effort, the Eagles managed two add two more runs in the seventh inning and held the Rangers to only the three runs scored for the win.

Hull started out the battery, striking out four and allowing six hits and three earned runs in 3.1 innings.  Fellow sophomore Rachelle Knudson will pick up the loss after allowing two runs and one hit in three innings of good work.  Junior Britney Lee closed things out in the circle, seeing four batters to finish the game.

Game two was a whole different ballgame however, with Regis again scoring two in the first and a big six runs in the second to put the Eagles down to a 8-0 score in only the second inning.

Hull laced out a grand slam to help the Rangers earn their way to a sixth RMAC victory on the season.

In the fifth inning, CSC attempted to rally crossing one run but RU put a quick end to that.  In the bottom of the frame, the Rangers added a ninth run to the scorebooks, ending the game early in five innings with a 9-1 result.

Lee earns her third win of the season after allowing only two hits and one unearned run in five innings of work.  She fanned six after 23 batters faced.

Regis will return to the diamond to face Chadron State once again tomorrow, March 10 in another doubleheader beginning at noon.
