Box Score ALAMOSA, Colo.: Regis softball finished out their three-game series (dropped fourth due to weather) with a 3-2 eight-inning loss to Adams State.
The Grizzlies put two runs on the board in the first inning, but evened the score with solo runs in both the second and fourth innings.
In the second, freshman Alyssa Finger reached on a single and advanced to third on an error by left field. She scored on a clutch fielder's choice ball hit by fellow freshman Bradey King.
In the fourth, junior Taylor Wilcox knocked yet another homerun out (5th of the season), starting out the inning by evening the score 2-2.
Neither team managed to score through the seventh frame, extending the game into extra innings. In the top of the eight, both Finger and King had singles but a few Ranger fly outs put Regis under.
Then in the bottom of the frame, the Grizzlies earned a run after allowing the first batter to reach on an error and eventually scoring her on a double to end the game.
Sophomore Nicole Hull started the game, pitching one inning and allowing four hits and the two earned runs. Then junior Sydney Gaffin entered the circle and kept the Rangers strong through the final 6.1 innings. She struck out an impressive five while allowing only the one unearned run and four total hits in 25 batters faced.
The results from game two on day one are in as well, although stats are still being updated. In the game on Saturday, the Rangers defeated the Grizzlies 6-1 in seven innings total.
Regis collected eight hits in the game with Wilcox, junior Rachel Illias and freshman Carlie Sexton all going 2-4 at the plate. Wilcox had a double and two RBIs, while Illias nabbed a triple and senior Shelby Wieman garnered her first homerun of her senior campaign.
Junior Britney Lee pitched all seven innings, allowing five hits and only one earned run while fanning six.
The Rangers started off the game with two runs. Illias started off the RU offensive with a triple to left center and was brought around on a double to left center by Wilcox. Wilcox then scored after Finger hit a hard-to-handle grounder to the second baseman that she bobbled before the Grizzlies closed out the inning.
In the fourth inning, senior Sam Talmich started things off with a triple to right field. Freshman Kate Lorenz then walked and Wieman knocked the three-run homer out to give the Rangers a big 5-1 lead in the game.
Regis put one more insurance run up in the seventh. Sexton singled to start things off and Wilcox doubled to right field to pick up another RBI in the game.
Regis closed out with the 6-1 victory and finished the weekend with a 1-2 outing against Adams State.
