Box Score Denver, Colorado: The Regis University Ranger volleyball team was firing on all cylinders tonight as they tallied 12 blocks and hit .287 to defeat Adams State in straight sets.
Regis (9-4, 4-1 RMAC) didn't waste time in the first set and led 13-4 and cruised to a 25-16 win. RU hit .294 in the first set compared to .108 for Adams State (7-6, 2-3 RMAC). The RU blocks were working in set two as they tallied seven total blocks and limited ASU to a .073 attack percentage. The Grizzlies played the second set tougher as they trailed just 15-12 before RU went on a 3-0 run to open an 18-12 lead and held on 25-19.
Regis had a slim 11-9 win before they started to impose their will and scored 14 of the next 19 points to win 25-14.
Caitie Breaux led the way with 11 kills, just one error and 23 attempts for a .435 attack percentage. Gina Morgan was right behind with 10 kills and a .421 attack percentage. Mary Schroeder collected seven kills and a .429 attack percentage, while Maggie Steward had six kills.
Rebecca Sponcil had 32 assists, a service aces, five digs and three blocks while Samantha Mangseth led the defense with five total blocks. Cedar Bellows came off the bench to supply four blocks and was joined by Mary Schroeder with four also. Breaux led the defense with 14 digs, while Steward and Alessandra Orlandini each had nine digs.
Regis will complete the three-game weekend hosting Western State on Saturday afternoon at 5:00 p.m.
