Box Score Denver, Colorado: The Regis University Ranger volleyball team completed a sweep of the three-game weekend with a convincing 3-0 victory over Western State.
Regis (10-4, 5-1 RMAC0 had no trouble in set one as they limited the Mountaineers to just five kills on 31 attempts with five errors for a .000 attack percentage. RU jumped out on Western State (0-10, 0-6 RMAC) 10-2 and eventually 21-6 before cruising to the 25-10 win.
The Rangers came out in the second set and hit .654 with Maggie Steward getting six kills with no errors and seven attempts and cruised to an identical 25-10 victory. Western State came out in set three and gave Regis a run. Western State led 6-2 early on but Regis kept chipping away at the lead and eventually tied the set at 10. RU took an 18-14 lead but after a Western State timeout, the Mountaineers mounted a comeback eventually tying the game at 21.
The Rangers scored the final three points following a 22-22 tie to take set three 25-22.
RU hit .379, the second best on the season, compared to .182 for Western State. Maggie Steward led the way offensively with 17 kills, just two errors in 30 attempts for a .500 attack percentage. Gina Morgan and Mary Schroeder both had five kills, no errors on nine attempts for a .556 attack percentage.
Caitie Breaux put down eight kills and was second for the Rangers with 12 digs and three service aces. Maya Kirkeby continued her stellar defense with 19 more digs. Rebecca Sponcil dished out 36 assists, while Alessandra Orlandini had four service aces and six digs.
RU will head on the road as they travel to Chadron State on Friday.
