Box Score Denver, Colo.: Bouncing back from a rough road stint last weekend was the Regis University Ranger women's basketball team comfortably controlling the Fort Lewis Skyhawks (8-6, 5-5 RMAC) in a 63-52 win on their home court.
The Rangers jumped out to an early 11-3 lead and extended it to double-digits throughout the majority of the first half leading by as much as 13. In the final two minutes before the break, Fort Lewis made a push to try and gain momentum bringing the score to 27-23 at halftime.
The Skyhawks would bring the score once more to single digits at the 17:48 mark, 32-29 and that would be the closest they would get. Regis opened the scoring back up around the 15 minute mark off a made three-point basket by junior guard Bay'lee Purdy (Agate, Colorado) to take the score back to double-digits, 40-29.
RU's largest lead of the game was 15 about halfway through the second half but Fort Lewis would continue to fight. The Rangers always responded quickly to sit at a comfortable distance moving to an overall record of 9-5 and 5-5 in the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference.
Purdy led all scorers with 18 points off 6-17 from the field and 4-8 from distance. Senior guard Erica Von Stein (Trafalgar, Indiana) scored her highest of the season adding 13 off 3-8 from the field and 4-4 from the line while also grabbing five boards and dishing out five assists. As a team, the Rangers held the Skyhawks to shoot just 15 percent from the arc and 35 percent from the field. Regis also forced 23 turnovers and scored 21 points off 14 offensive rebounds.
The Rangers are back on their home court Saturday, January 17 at 3 p.m.
