Box Score Denver, Colorado - The Regis Rangers fell tonight to Adams State 74-60 in an RMAC showdown at the Regis Fieldhouse.
Regis (4-11, 2-9 RMAC) never led in the game with Adams State (9-5, 6-5 RMAC) jumping out to a 9-2 lead and then stretched the lead to as many as 16 points. RU responded late in the first half after trailing 36-20 with just 3:07 left they finished the half on a 9-1 run including a late old-fashioned three-point play by Kevin Marshall with 1:03 left. That would be the last score of the half with ASU ahead 37-29 at half.
Roberto Reyes came off the bench in the first half for seven points, while Brett Hartshorne put in six. Adams State hit 14-of-21 from the field in the first stanza for a 66.7 shooting percentage.
The Adams State size and speed took over in the second half but Regis battled hard and kept the difference under 10 including a 45-38 score at 15:17 following a three pointer by Chris Snyder. Reyes, who led the team with 15 points, hit a jumper to cut the lead to 52-42 with 12:27 left in the game. However, Adams State went on a 13-2 run over the next five minutes to put the game out of reach.
RU shot 48.8 percent on the night, but ASU shot 60.4 percent from the field. Reyes went 5-for-8 from the field and 5-for-7 from the charity stripe. He led the team with Dylan King with four rebounds apiece. Bryan Siefker chipped in with 10 points, while Brett Hartshorne had eight points. Kevin Marshall dished out a team-high five assists to go along with seven points.
Regis hits the road for two weekends in a row traveling to Colorado Mesa and Western State next weekend.
