Box Score Denver, Colo.: Four Regis University Rangers reached double-digits as they had little trouble with the New Mexico Highlands Cowgirls (4-8, 3-5 RMAC) defeating the visitors 78-48. As a team, Regis dished out a season-high of 21 assists while tallying just ten turnovers to move to 8-3 overall and 4-3 in the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference.
RU immediately started the game off strong grabbing four consecutive offensive boards in the opening minutes. Their constant fight showed throughout the game never letting up on the gas pedal.
At the 17 minute mark, the Rangers next four field goals would all be three-point baskets, two from junior guard Jessica Ramos (Thornton, Colorado) and one each from senior guard Erica Von Stein (Trafalgar, Indiana) and junior guard Bay'lee Purdy (Agate, Colorado). Regis led by as much as 18 in the first half before the Cowgirls slowly began to dig away at the score but RU held on to head into the break with a 36-25 lead.
Von Stein opened the second half knocking down a three-pointer to pick up right where the Rangers left off which was quickly followed by another Ramos three to provide a 14-point cushion. For the remainder of the game, RU kept the Cowgirls at a comfortable distance to secure the win in the first weekend of 2015 RMAC games.
Purdy led all scorers with 20 points on 7-16 from the field and 4-11 from distance. Sophomore forward Kaycee Hert (Spokane, Washington) added 16 points on 6-9 from the field and 3-4 from the free throw line. Ramos finished the night on 4-6 from the arc for her season high of 14. Senior center Sarah Seefeldt (The Woodlands, Texas) rounded out the double-digit scorers with ten and grabbed six rebounds.
The Rangers are on the road next on Friday, January 9 at Colorado Mines.
