Box Score Denver, Colorado - 2015 didn't start off to well for the Regis men's basketball team as they fell to Western New Mexico 73-66.
Regis (3-7, 1-5 RMAC) knotted the game early at 10 on a free throw by Dexter Sienko. Western New Mexico (1-10, 1-6 RMAC) scored the next 11 to take a 21-10 lead. RU responded with a 17-4 run to cut the lead to 27-25 with 5:33 left in the first half. Kevin Marshall closed the gap just before half to 37-30 heading into the lockerroom.
RU had troubles at the free throw line going just 8-for-18 (44.4 percent) and were outrebounded 34-23.
RU trailed 49-42 before scoring eight in a row to take a 50-49 lead with just over 11 minutes remaining. WNMU regained the lead and Dylan King, who led the Rangers with 15 points, supplied one of his game-high four three pointers to cut the lead to 58-56 with 6:26 remaining. The Mustangs then went on an 11-2 run over the next four minutes to lead 69-58 with just over two minutes left.
The Rangers made a late run with King scoring the final five but it wasn't enough falling 73-66.
King went 5-for-9 overall and 4-for-8 from deep while adding three assists. Marshall had 13 points, while Bryan Siefker came off the bench with 11 points. Brett Hartshorne led the Rangers with six rebounds and put in 10 points.
Regis will host New Mexico Highlands tomorrow at 5 p.m.
