Box Score Golden, Colo.: In a game that was close throughout, the Regis University Ranger women's basketball was brought down on the road 68-62 at the Colorado School of Mines Orediggers (7-7, 2-6 RMAC).
From the start, teams battled, alternating scoring and exchanging the lead but never letting one or the other gain too much momentum. Regis held Mines scoreless for a two minute stretch halfway through the first half before the Orediggers found momentum going on a 10-2 run to carry their largest lead of the game 28-18 with just under five to play before the break.
Freshman guard Mary Sigler (Port Edwards, Wisconsin) sparked a Ranger response knocking down two three-point baskets in the midst of a 14-4 run that would tie the score 32-32 at halftime.
The battle pursued into the second half with both teams continuing to trade baskets. Junior guard Bay'lee Purdy (Agate, Colorado) tied the score 44-44 at the 13:44 mark hitting one from distance; this would be the final tie of the game. Mines responded with a 7-0 run trying to put some distance between them and the Rangers.
Regis could never fully recover and fought back to come within one, 63-62, at the 3:31 mark off a layup from junior guard Caresse Williams (Citrus Heights, California); the Williams field goal would be the last of the game for RU falling to an overall record of 8-4 and 4-4 in the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference.
Purdy led the Rangers with 17 points on 6-16 from the field and 3-3 from the line while dishing out three assists and grabbing two steals. Sophomore forward Karlyn Johnson (Littleton, Colorado) added 12 points on 4-9 from the field, 4-5 from the charity stripe, and just shy of a double-double grabbing nine rebounds. Sigler went 2-2 from distance and 4-5 from the line to add ten points.
RU outrebounded the Orediggers 43-38 pulling down 15 offensive boards but Mines shooting 42% from the field and 35% from the arc proved too much for the Rangers. Regis is back on the road at Colorado Christian Saturday, January 10 at 5 p.m.
