Box Score DENVER, Colo. - The Regis University women's soccer team (7-3-3, 3-2-3 RMAC) beat a solid Westminster College team (7-6-1, 3-5-1 RMAC) on Sunday afternoon with a late goal from senior Sid Otto. Junior Kat Crump extended her unbeaten streak as she collected her fifth shutout of 2015.
In the first half Westminster saw a plethora of opportunities taking seven shots at the Regis defense. The quality of shot did not match the quantity of shots the Griffins created as they were unable to put any dangerous attempts on frame. WC held the Rangers to only a single shot in the opening period, but the shot was on target.
Opening the second half, RU was able to put everything together that they couldn't find in the first half. Their passing was crisp, hard and efficient. Their attacks were complete and dangerous. After being held in check at the beginning of the game, Regis took nine shots in the second half.
Late in the second half, Otto took a pass from senior Nicholette Sartori and blasted a left foot shot from 20 yards out that grazed the crossbar and beat the Westminster keeper for the first and last goal of the match in the 85th minute. Sartori picked up her second assist of 2015 as Otto drilled her sixth goal of the season.
Regis possessed the ball for a majority of the game but was outshot by the Griffins 14-10 through 90 minutes. The corner kick narrowly tilted in favor of the Rangers 5-4 although neither team converted any set piece opportunities.
Crump (6-0-3) has been a monster in between the posts this season as she added to her impressive shutout total, collecting her fifth of the year. Crump remains unbeaten this season in goal and has a 0.61 goals against average to go along with her .860 save percentage.
The women's team will host cross-town rival Metro State University-Denver on Wednesday October 21 at 3:30 p.m. in a rematch of the October 11 match that ended in a 1-1 draw. The ladies will then travel to Fort Lewis on Friday October 23, and Adams State University on Sunday October 25 before returning home for their final two home matches of the year.
