Box Score DENVER, Colo. – The Regis University women's soccer team (10-4-3. 5-3-2 RMAC) hosted Colorado State University-Pueblo (8-7-2, 4-5-1 RMAC) in a Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference (RMAC) matchup on Friday afternoon. Regis was unable to come out with a victory, dropping the game 2-1 to the Thunderwolves.
The Thunderwolves came out of the gates fast as they opened up the scoring in the first half. In the 7th minute, CSU-Pueblo's Kylee Sakaguchi sent a corner kick into the box that bounced its way to Amanda Jorgensen who back heeled the ball past junior Kat Crump putting the Thunderwolves up 1-0.
RU responded three minutes later with a goal of their own. Senior Sid Otto came through once again for the Rangers as she received a cross from redshirt-junior Sade Akindele and buried, her RMAC leading, ninth goal of the year in the 10th minute of the first half.
With no goals from the teams for the rest of the first half, Regis and CSU-Pueblo remained deadlocked at one heading into the break.
After halftime, RU had things clicking on the offensive end as they were able to pressure the Thunderwolves defense, opening up many opportunities to counter-attack and control possession.
Late in the second half, Brianna Garcia of the visiting Thunderwolves dribbled up the right side of the field and cut into the box delivering a grounded pass to Tanna Duling. Duling took a shot that deflected off a Regis defender and into the back of the goal putting CSU-Pueblo up 2-1 in the 81st minute.
Although RU outshot the Thunderwolves 11-10, both teams managed six shots on goal. Regis took seven corner kicks, surrendering only three to CSU-Pueblo. For the first time in 2015, goalkeeper Kat Crump took a loss between the posts bringing her record to 9-1-3 on the season.
The ladies will remain at home to host their regular season finale on Sunday against New Mexico Highlands at 1 p.m. Come out and support the Rangers as they will honor the six seniors on the team at the annual Senior Day match.
