Box Score SALT LAKE CITY, Utah. – The Regis University men's soccer team (6-9-0, 3-6 RMAC) traveled to Westminster College (1-7-1, 2-12-1) for a non-conference matchup exploding for five goals against the Griffins on Friday afternoon.
Redshirt-sophomore Brian Strasbaugh got the day started for Regis as he took a pass from junior Jake Gilchrist-Dudley and drilled the first goal of the game inside the left post in the 16th minute of the first half.
Strasbaugh and the Rangers were just getting started as sophomore Sawyer Lincoln dribbled through many Griffin defenders and blasted the ball past the WC goalkeeper for his fifth goal of the season, putting RU up 2-0 in the 41st minute.
After a goal from the Griffins early in the second half, the Rangers responded with yet another goal. Redshirt sophomore Eduardo Belmar sent a ball to Strasbaugh who connected with his second goal of the game in the 66th minute.
Minutes later, RU earned a free kick deep into Westminster territory. Freshman Sean Ward took the free kick which deflected off a player and beat the keeper extending the Regis lead to 4-1.
In the 84th minute, sophomore Quinton Carey got in on the action as he was able to track down a misplayed ball from the keeper and put in his fourth goal of the 2015 season putting the nail in the coffin with the Rangers fifth goal.
Regis dominated in all aspects of the game, outshooting Westminster 19-3 and putting 12 of those shots on goal. RU did not surrender any corner kicks to the Griffins as they took six of their own. Lincoln led the Rangers with four shots, putting three of them on goal and scoring one goal. Strasbaugh's two goals marked his first two of the season.
Eduardo Belmar earned his third and fourth assists of the season. Belmar now ranks first on the team in assists (4) and points (14) and he also shares the team lead in goals (5) with Lincoln.
