Box Score COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – The Regis University volleyball team bounced back from a tough Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference match last night to defeat the University of Colorado-Colorado Springs Mountain Lions in three straight sets.
A constant battle throughout the length of the first set as both teams took turns exchanging points. Kills from Diamond Ridley-Pierce and Katie Klein gave RU a 19-17 lead before the Mountain Lions rallied to even the score 22-22. The Rangers tallied back-to-back kills bringing the score to 24-22 and forcing a UCCS timeout. Klein finished off the first set, 25-22, with a kill giving Regis a 1-0 match lead.
The momentum of the first set win carried over into the beginning of the second set as the Rangers blasted to a 19-14 lead. Looking like Regis was going to easily take the second set, the Mountain Lions crafted a comeback tying the score 20-20. The score tied 22-22 for the last time before RU was able to close out the second set victory, 25-22.
The Rangers sealed the win in the third set with a booming 25-13 domination not allowing UCCS to gain any sort of offensive momentum.
Maggie Steward led Regis in back-to-back nights with 13 kills. Klein followed closely with 12 kills of her own. The Rangers were much more efficient on the night turning 46 kills from 113 attempts for an overall attack percentage of .310.
RU improved with their defense at the net tallying 21 blocks to the Mountain Lions six with Ridley-Pierce and Brinley Beresford each recording six on the night.
Regis returns to their home court on Friday, November 6 at 7 p.m. against Black Hills State.
