RU locks up #4 seed despite 1-0 loss to NMHU

Box Score

DENVER, Colo. – The Regis University women's soccer team (10-5-3, 5-4-2 RMAC) was unable to come out with a win against New Mexico Highlands University (7-10-1, 5-5-1 RMAC) Sunday afternoon, but they have still clinched the fourth seed in Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference tournament this upcoming week.

In their regular season finale, Regis did not fall short in goal scoring opportunities as they took 24 shots and put 16 of those shots on goal. The Rangers chances were ousted by the New Mexico Highlands goalkeeper who made 16 saves.

Late in the second half, NMHU made a substitution that would prove crucial to the game. Danielle Acuna checked into the game and made an immediate impact as she connected on a shot from outside the box and beat junior keeper Kat Crump for the only goal of the game in the 34th minute.

Nine different RU players put shots on goal with senior Sid Otto leading the way with six. Sophomore Rikki Fix added three more shots on goal, but none of the shots amounted to goals. Possessing the ball for a majority of the game proved insufficient for the Rangers as they limited the Cowgirls to six shots in the game and only two corner kicks.

Despite today's result, the Rangers have locked up the fourth seed for the RMAC tournament set to begin this Wednesday, November 4 at 2 p.m. against Metro State University-Denver on the Regis Match Pitch. The rest of the RMAC tournament will be hosted by Colorado Mines in Golden, Colo.
