Box Score GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. – The Regis University men's soccer team (6-10-0, 3-7-0 RMAC) dropped their regular season finale 1-0 to Colorado Mesa University (13-3-2, 8-2-0 RMAC) Sunday afternoon.
Regis was looking to put together a strong end of the season coming off a 5-1 pounding of Westminster College on Friday but fell short in their final game of the year. The Rangers matched up with the Mavericks who sit in the top four of the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference men's soccer standings.
RU was unable to get much going offensively as CMU limited the offense to only three shots in the match. Sophomore Sawyer Lincoln, freshman Ben Parsons, and freshman Lucas Garcia each managed to take shots in the game with Parsons and Garcia putting their shots on target.
In the 40th minute of the first half, Roy Abergil of CMU took a headed pass from Matt Miller and beat senior goalkeeper Christian Nicolosi for the first and only goal of the match. Colorado Mesa University would hold onto their lead for the rest of the game, taking the victory 1-0 over RU.
The Rangers took three corner kicks in the match and were unable to convert on the set pieces. RU was outshot 13-3 by the Mavericks, but they limited the Mavericks to only two corner kicks in the match.
Senior Christian Nicolosi played his final game in between the posts for Regis, collecting four saves on 13 shots faced, adding to his remarkable career numbers at RU. Nisolosi, senior Kade Hanson, and senior Connor Adkisson have contributed much success to the men's soccer team over their time spent at Regis. This game served as the final match of their Ranger careers, but they will forever be a part of the RU men's soccer family.
Although the outcome of the season isn't what they expected, the youthful team from this season has gained much needed experience and will be able to bring that to the field in 2016 where they will look to contend for an RMAC championship.
