Box Score DENVER, Colo. – Earning her first career win as a head coach Molly Marin and the Regis University women's basketball team grinded out an in-region victory over the Oklahoma Christian Eagles (0-2). The Rangers outscored the visitors in three-of-four quarters to seal the 64-58 win.
From the start, the fast-paced tempo proved to be a battle for both teams in an attempt to slowdown and make each possession count. Regis was hot from distance in the first half knocking down 4-of-9 including a Caresse Williams three at the six minute mark in the second quarter to give the Rangers their largest lead thus far, 27-16.
The Eagles continued pressing with halftime nearing forcing the Regis into some uncomfortable situations to bring the score to 29-24 at the break. RU opened the third quarter netting six straight points but Oklahoma Christian responded with back-to-back three-pointers bringing the deficit to 35-30.
As the third quarter continued, the Eagles remained close by keeping the Rangers at striking distance. Just after the start of the fourth quarter Oklahoma Christian was able to pull ahead into the lead with a pair of free throws.
Majestie Robinson knocked down a huge three from the top of the key giving the lead back to Regis, 50-49, with seven minutes to play. The lead would change two more times before RU was able to find Kaylie Rader inside back-to-back field goals and Bay'lee Purdy closed out the game going 4-of-4 from the line in the final minute.
Purdy led all scorers with 19 points on 6-of-14 from the field and a near perfect 5-of-6 from the line. Williams added an impressive stat line of 13 points on 6-of-8 from the field, six rebounds, one assist, and one steal. Karlyn Johnson led all rebounders with ten while adding five points, two steals, and a block.
The Rangers slightly edged out the Eagles in rebounds, 42-39, but held Oklahoma Christian to just 19 percent from beyond the arc and 29.5 from the field.
Regis next travels to Fort Hays State to take on Pittsburg State Friday, November 20 at 5 p.m.
