Three Rangers awarded All-RMAC, Klein named to First Team

Box Score

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – Three Regis volleyball players were awarded to All-Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference teams announced by the conference office, Tuesday afternoon. One repeat honoree in Katie Klein and two new faces in Rebecca Sponcil and Maggie Steward.

Klein, a right side hitter, has been named First Team All-RMAC; this is her second time receiving this distinction. After suffering a heartbreaking season-ending injury in the preseason of last year, Klein picked up right where she left off drawing much attention from opponents because of her dominating offensive consistency. Klein ranks third in the RMAC and leads Regis in kills per set with a 3.79 average. Her team-leading .303 attack percentage ranks her sixth in the RMAC as well.

Rebecca Sponcil, RU's libero, is nearing the close of her time as a Ranger and for the first time she has been awarded Second Team All-RMAC. Sponcil leads the team in digs with a 4.80 per set average, good for third best in the RMAC.

Sponcil is joined on Second Team by outside hitter Maggie Steward. Steward, too, is a first-time honoree of this award. She is second on team with 3.08 kills per set and adds 1.70 digs per set. Steward is also fourth on the team in blocks with 36.

These three, along with fellow teammates, will open the first round of the RMAC Tournament at the Regis Fieldhouse tonight at 7 p.m. against Western New Mexico.
