Box Score GOLDEN, Colo. – The Regis University women's basketball team handled the Western Oregon Wolves (1-4) with ease in their first game of the Mines Thanksgiving Classic hosted by Colorado Mines. The Rangers improve to 2-3 overall cruising past the Wolves with a 74-53 win.
Western Oregon was first on the scoreboard hitting one-of-two from the line just thirty seconds into the game but that would be the only time RU would allow their opponent to lead. The Rangers controlled a 17-7 lead holding the Wolves to just seven points at the end of the first quarter.
Regis experienced a scoring drought at the start of the second going three minutes without a basket but the lead was not affected as RU was able to continue holding Western Oregon to limited scoring. The Rangers began putting points on the board again to find themselves with a 37-20 lead at halftime.
A quick 7-2 RU run at the start of the third pushed the lead to their largest yet, 44-22. Throughout the remainder of the game, Regis comfortably held a 20-point lead, recording their largest of the game with 1:37 remaining, 72-47.
Bay'lee Purdy led all scorers with 24 points on 8-of-11 from the field, 2-of-5 from distance, and a perfect 6-for-6 from the line. Majestie Robinson added 13 points, two assists, and two steals. Karlyn Johnson and Kaylie Rader each pulled down seven boards a piece helping Regis to outrebound the Wolves 33-28.
The Rangers grabbed 13 steals and scored 18 points off 21 Western Oregon turnovers. RU shot 45.5 percent from the field and produced their best performance from beyond the arc thus far this season knocking down 7-of-18 for 38.9 percent.
Regis will next face Johnson & Wales (CO) Saturday, November 28 at 1 p.m.
