SAN ANGELO, Texas – The Regis University volleyball season comes to a close falling to the Angelo State 'Belles 3-1 in the quarterfinal match of the NCAA Division II South Central Regional Tournament. The Rangers displayed relentless strength and character but could not withstand a heavy-hitting 'Belles offense.

RU battled back several times throughout the length of the match but went down two sets to one after 25-21 and 25-15 first and second set wins by Angelo State. Eliminating mental lapses and proving they would not go down without a fight, the Rangers fought in the third set.  Regis came from behind to score five-straight points and take a 14-10 lead.

Regis would continue to control the remainder of the third set to stay alive with a 25-20 result ending on a powerful Maggie Steward kill. RU fell behind at the start of the fourth, 5-0, putting Angelo State in the driver's seat.

The score would tie four more times before the 'Belles pushed to give themselves a small window. The Rangers would not go down easily; attack errors ridden Angelo State late in the fourth as RU forced them to a timeout at 24-23. Unfortunately, a 'Belles kill could not be dug up putting an end to the match, 25-23. 

Katie Klein and Diamond Ridley-Pierce led Regis offensively with nine kills a piece; Ridley-Pierce hit at a clip of .250. Rachael McCue and Maggie Steward each added eight kills.

Angelo State recorded an impressive 24 blocks at the net. Rebecca Sponcil, Steward, Alessandra Orlandini, and Kristina Schell all had double-digit digs; Sponcil led with 22. Sponcil also added three service aces.

The Rangers made their fourth-straight NCAA Tournament appearance and finished the 2015 season with an 18-13 overall record.
