Box Score Denver, Colorado- In the closing weekend of the Regis Men's Basketball team's season, the Rangers continue to fight for each and every positive play they can earn. Tonight, the Rangers (5-20, 3-18) had quite a few positive moments, but it just was not enough against the University of Colorado-Colorado Springs. The Mountain Lions (23-4, 17-4) took the road victory 76-57.
To start off the first half, the Rangers were able to manage a quick 10-3 lead forcing UCCS to call a timeout and gather their thoughts. Sophomore guard Bryan Siefker knocked down two early three pointers to help the Rangers start off hot from the field. The Mountain Lions just as quickly got back into the game and tied it up at 14 from a Derrick White three-pointer at the 12:43 mark. UCCS could take their first lead of the game on their next possession, 16-14.
All throughout the first half, it looked as though the Rangers were going to hold with the No. 18 ranked Mountain Lions. With 8:30 left in the first half, senior forward Brett Hartshorne took back the lead for his Rangers with an easy layup putting Regis up 22-20. From there, UCCS started to gain control of the game and went into half time with a lead of 38-29.
The second half began just as the first half had ended. The Mountain Lions extended their lead to 17 with just three and a half minutes into the half. Regis continued to battle as much as they could against UCCS; Hartshorne knocked down a jumper with 10:57 to go in the game to bring the Mountain Lions within seven. That would be the closest the Rangers could get for the rest of the night. UCCS closed out the game on a 15-5 run.
Hartshorne and junior guard Billy Hansen both lead the team in points for the night; each of them contributed 10 points. Freshman forward Dexter Sienko was just shy of double digits scoring nine. Hartshorne and freshman forward each pulled down four rebounds.
The Rangers final home game will also be Coach Lonnie Porter's final game on the sidelines for Regis. Tomorrow night Colorado State-Pueblo will visit the Regis Fieldhouse with a tip-off set for 5 pm.
