Rangers Split in the Opening Weekend at the NFCA Division II Classic

Tucson, Arizona –The Regis University softball team opened the 2015 season up in Tucson, Arizona at the NFCA DII Leadoff Classic.  The Rangers split in the first day of games; dropping to the No. 13 University of Missouri-St. Louis Tritons (2-0, 0-0) in a 4-0 decision and then coming from behind to take down the Texas Woman's University Pioneers (0-2, 0-0) 6-5 in extra innings.

In game one against the Tritons, Regis fell behind early in the first inning allowing three runs to score.  The Tritons scored one more in the third inning to seal the 4-0 win.  The Rangers had four hits but could not capitalize on any.  Junior Nicole Aviles (Phoenix, Arizona) pitched for RU and recorded nine shutouts. 

In game two against the Pioneers, Texas Woman's took an early 1-0 lead.  In the third inning, Regis got the offense moving scoring two runs to take the lead on a two-out, two-RBI double kicked off by sophomore Bradey King (Loveland, Colorado) and senior Taylor Wilcox (El Centro, California). 

The bats continued into the fifth for the Rangers when they crossed three over home plate to take a 5-2 lead.  The Pioneers scored a two-run home run and one more to tie the game and take it into the eighth inning.  An international tiebreaker was used to decide this game but it would not last long as Wilcox scored the winning run off a two-out single.  The Rangers are 1-1 overall on the season and turn around to play Southeastern Oklahoma at 9 a.m. on Saturday, February 7.
