Box Score Denver, Colorado – The Regis University Ranger women's basketball team is a force to be reckoned with on their home court. Although, slow to get things rolling in the beginning, the Rangers handled the Colorado School of Mines (11-12, 6-11 RMAC) easily blowing past the Orediggers 77-59 with the help of a strong second half performance.
Junior guard Caresse Williams (Citrus Heights, California) continues to be an offensive threat putting the Rangers on the scoreboard from a made three at the 17:37 mark. Both teams struggled to find any rhythm early in the game with the Orediggers holding control of the lead throughout the majority of the first half. Junior guard Jessica Ramos (Thornton, Colorado) tied the game at 30-30 knocking down one from distance minutes before the break. Mines would score the final basket of the half draining a three as time was running out to head into halftime with a 33-32 lead over Regis.
The Rangers found momentum at the start of the second half to slowly begin to make the game that much further out of reach for Mines. Senior guard Erica Von Stein (Trafalgar, Indiana) gave RU their first double-digit lead off a made three at the 12:59 mark.
Regis reached their largest lead of the game at the 3:48 minute mark when junior guard Bay'lee Purdy (Agate, Colorado) added to the collection of three's on the night for RU. The Rangers scored 22 points in the paint and 23 off Oredigger turnovers as they sealed the victory and back-to-back wins. Regis went 22-25 from the charity stripe despite being outrebounded 44-36. RU moves to 14-7 overall and 10-7 in the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference.
Williams led all scorers with 23 points on 7-12 from the field, 2-5 from distance, 7-9 from the line, and grabbed five rebounds. Senior center Sarah Seefeldt (The Woodlands, Texas) went 5-10 from the field and 4-4 from the line to help with 14. Sophomore forward Kaycee Hert (Spokane, Washington) added 12 going a perfect 6-6 from the line.
The Rangers are back on their home court a week from today on Saturday, February 14 at 3 p.m. as they host Metro State.
