Rangers Take Home Opener

Box Score

Denver, Colorado- The Regis Women's Lacrosse team added another win to their record today beating Shippensburg 18-11. The Rangers put forth a dominating performance that included two scoring runs in the first half that put the Raiders in their rearview mirror.

It was Shippensburg who netted the first goal of the game, but the Rangers answered with six straight goals of their own. Six different Rangers scored on the Raiders producing that run. Sophomore midfielder Erin Steiner capped the six goal run with an unassisted goal at the 17:25 mark to put Regis up 6-1. Shippensburg stopped the bleeding with a goal from Sarah McLeod just a minute later, but the Rangers went back the offensive to score two more going up 8-2.

Regis would score another five in a row before Shippensburg closed the half with a goal of their own to make the score 13-4 at the break.

In the second half, the Rangers admittedly got a bit lackadaisical. The Raiders put up seven goals to Regis' three through the first 22 minutes of the half. Still, the Rangers stayed composed and sealed the victory with two more goals by the end of the game.

Steiner and senior midfielder Emily Behr led the Regis offensively each contributing three goals. Overall eight different Rangers scored during the game making the victory a true team effort. Senior attacker Lily Colley caused two four turnovers while also netting two goals and assisted on two others. Senior goalkeeper Gianna Lombardi earned her third win of the season making five saves on nine shots. Freshman goalkeeper Kenly Harrington also saw playing time in the second half making six saves on 13 shots.

The Rangers will keep busy this weekend, as they will have back-to-back games on Saturday and then Sunday. On Saturday, Regis will faceoff with Colorado Mesa at noon and then on Sunday, they will take on Rockhurst at noon.
